Umbrella Expands to Olive Tree House
Umbrella Inc. is thrilled to announce that, through a competitive tender process, we have been selected as the organisation to move into the Olive Tree House in the City of Bayswater. This marks a pivotal moment in our 25- year journey of community service and growth. We are deeply thankful to the councillors who supported our tender application, and we are excited about working closely with the City of Bayswater and the Mayor to deliver long-term benefits to the local community.
Umbrella has long been a part of the Bayswater community, having served the area for over 14 years before relocating to the City of Belmont. Despite our move, approximately 35% of our clients continue to reside in Bayswater, illustrating the enduring connections we’ve built in the region. Our return to the area underscores our commitment to reinvesting in the community and continuing to provide essential services for older adults, particularly those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Our vision for Olive Tree House is to transform it into a vibrant, multi-functional community hub that fosters engagement, reduces social isolation, and provides tailored support for CaLD seniors and their families. The following core activities will be at the heart of our work at Olive Tree House:
- Care finder team – Olive Tree House will become the new home for our rapidly expanding Care Finder team, which is one of the largest multicultural Care finder teams in the country.
- Drop-in Centre/Community Hub – A welcoming space for community members to access information, receive support, and connect with others in an inclusive, culturally sensitive environment.
- Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme – The Olive Tree space will house the largest bilingual volunteer program in WA that works to individually match volunteers to seniors in a fight against social isolation.
- Specialised Programs – We will offer specific programs such as the Elder Right Project (with Legal Aid); OMI Bridging the Gap Project (with Cancer Council and Palliative Care WA) and the Cyber Security Project (with TADWA and MagooIT) to continue advocating for and educating our wider community.
