As a volunteer, you’ll commit to just one hour every fortnight to provide companionship and social support to seniors from multilingual, multicultural, multifaith, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds who are at risk of social isolation. You will be carefully matched with someone in your local area whose language, culture, or interests align with yours, making your visits even more meaningful.
Your regular visits can significantly improve their wellbeing, boost self-esteem, and help seniors feel connected and valued.
Volunteering with ACVVS is a rewarding way to give back, develop meaningful relationships, and make a positive impact in the Perth metropolitan and Peel regions. Training and ongoing support are provided to help you make the most of your volunteer experience.

Some residential aged care facilities require volunteers to have up-to-date flu vaccinations before entry, especially during flu season. If you are visiting a client at home, vaccination is not compulsory but strongly recommended for your protection and the safety of the client. Please check with the Program Coordinator if you are unsure of the requirements for your client.
Volunteers are generally expected to visit alone to ensure the safety, comfort, and privacy of the client. If you would like to bring a child along, prior approval from the ACVVS Program Coordinator is required.
Yes, we can provide you with a hard copy of the volunteer application form if needed. Please contact our team, and we will arrange an alternative way for you to apply.
Bringing food is not encouraged due to potential allergies, dietary restrictions, and facility regulations. If you are considering bringing food for a specific reason (such as a cultural celebration), please seek approval from the Program Coordinator beforehand.
Walks within the facility or around the client’s home area may be allowed if the client is physically able and willing. However, taking a client for a drive requires pre assessment. For any activity outside the usual visit location, please discuss with the Program Coordinator and seek approval.
No. All visits should be planned and agreed upon with the client (or their family/carer/facility staff if applicable) to respect the client’s routine and preferences. If you wish to change your regular visiting schedule, please notify the ACVVS team in advance.
No, having a driver’s license is not a requirement unless you plan to drive yourself to the visit location. Volunteers who use their own car for travel are expected to hold a valid driver’s license and have appropriate car insurance. You are also welcome to use other forms of transport, such as public transport, walking, cycling, or arranging a drop-off with family or friends.
Yes, weekend visits are allowed if the client is happy with that arrangement. However, this also depends on the client’s availability and, in the case of residential facilities, the facility’s visiting hours and policies. Please inform the ACVVS team about your intended visit days and times so we can keep accurate records for safety and reporting purposes.
In most cases, pets are not allowed during volunteer visits to ensure the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of the client. Some clients may have allergies, fear of animals, or restrictions set by the residential facility. If you are interested in bringing your dog for a visit, you must seek prior approval from the ACVVS Program Coordinator. Additionally, the client (or their family/carer) and the facility (if applicable) must agree before any animal is present during a visit.
